Ok, this forum has tons of information and people willing to help you out. There are no stupid questions here so ask whatever you dont know about. You may want to try searching for something first before you ask, it may have been covered already. Click this button to search. Here is a site that I recommend to everyone that is new to WWII reenacting. It is a great site for beginners and has loads of info. www.hardscrabblefarm.com/ww2/ww2_home.htmWelcome to my forum and I hope it benefits you as much as possible.

I'd like to second what Troy has already said. Search and Hard Scrabble are excellant starting points. Going back to them often will also be your norm. When it comes to Hard Scrabble even the Saltiest Reenactor has them in our favorites file.
Another good step is to go to "Official Associations". Meaning the official web sites for the Divisional Veterans. You'll find tons of pictures taken by the guys who did it for real. Often times these pictures will be totally different from the censored pictures of the War Department and Civilian Publications.
Another good reference source is the vendors list on the upper right hand corner of all the screens. All the vendors listed have been reenacting for years. Surfing their sites will answer a bunch of questions.
Surfing the Quartermaster web site out of Fort Lee Virginia is also a great learning experience. They have the museum after all.

I was just wondering what kinds of pre-requisites I need to participate in one of these. Also, I heard something about "kits" and I'm not sure exactly what they were talking about. I hope you can shed a little light.

I want to thank everyone here that offers so much support on something so forgotten, history... I just recently found out that my grandfather was assigned to the 101st. He was jumped trained for D-Day but was re-assigned to the Army Amphibious Forces 1st Eng. Spc. Brgd. I am in the process of getting together equipment (personal/uniform/etc.) of a 101st airborne soldier and start my own personal re-enactments at local venues in my area. This is just my small way to keep his (my grandfather's) story and all WW II veterans' story alive. Your list of vendors is of such help..THANKS
If anyone has any history of the Army Amphibious Forces please let me know...TKS

Captain Speedy of the 5th Rangers is a serving soldier so why wait till you get out. Jim

You probably have more disposable cash at your age than I do at mine. If you start buying your stuff, you will have a really good impression. That of course is if you are not married. ;D Martin

You have signed up for the Marines but have not left yet. There is no reason you can't be in the Marines and reenact. Outside of sea duty or deployments you can take leave for events. A large percentage of WWII reenactors are active duty military. Just find a unit near your base.

Is there acertain age that you have to be to start reenacting or any qualifications? If some1 could claer this up for me that would help alot. The only "age" limits would be weapons laws and parental or adult supervision. I'd accept a kid (6 - 16) wearing home made OD utilities with a Dutch helmet liner so long as the kid was reading books and doing book reports. Let's face it with single parents and families involved in reenacting I've got no problem with a kid sitting around the fire drinking hot coco and learning so long as he isn't acting goofier than me. If the kid can provide me with a little mature guidence all the better. Now when it comes to doing tacticals that is a whole different aspect in reenacting and can only be answered by event staff and unit leaders. Jim

i know that 99% if not 100% of the events do not allow anyone under 18 to operate weapons, even blank firing weapons. until you turn 18, you may want to look into portraying a non-combatant such as a medic or photographer, chaplain, etc.

Thanks guys, I'm 13 and I was just wondering when i'd be able to join a unit. Just to let you know I have my own K-98, paintball gun, BB gun and shotgun I also have my hunting liscence(would any of that make a difference that i could do tacticals? just wondering). So would it be a matter of what my parents say or would it be the Unit commander? (I can also speak a bit of German.)

So would it be a matter of what my parents say or would it be the Unit commander? (I can also speak a bit of German.) Spartan It isn't even up to the Unit Commander. The insurance for the events is based on legal standards from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as well as state, county and local laws. Now that is only for firearms used in tacticals where a Unit Commander might let you join at 13 and participate in displays using a de-militarized weapon. All it takes to de-mil a weapon is pulling the firing pin and letting the CO keep it in his foot locker or glove box till after the event. The question is; are you dedicated enough to the hobby to do nothing but study for the next five years till you can participate in tacticals? Jim
