Hello everyone, my name is Steve and I am with the FSSF out of St. Louis. I am fairly new to reenacting (1yr.) but not to collecting. The group has decided to make me the mess sgt. after seeing my collection of cooking gear. I have only been able to set up the field kitchen twice, but have had no complaints on the meals served. This year I am planning on 4-5 major events and am hoping to meet some of the other cooks and reenactors in the field. If anyone may know of a link to find pictures of cooks or field kitchens, I would greatly apreciate it. See you on the field.

This is good information. I haven't started reenacting yet. Nobody is into this hobby in my area so I plan to start a group then introduce it here in my city. My grandfather was with the USAFFE during WWII so most likely I'd like to reenact this.

Hi guys. Another newbie. Just attended my first event as a guest to meet a few units in my area. Just wondering why most of you guys who have been in the hobby got involved. I'm drawn to collecting uniforms and gear but can't say that being able to wear the gear and do battle scenarios isn't attractive as well.
I know friends and family may find the new hobby a bit odd just trying to justify getting involved.Like to hear anyone's reasons for joining up.
Thanks Chuck

Hello I am new here but have been a Mountain Man era reenactor for several years... I just got into a group that does events at the USS Batfish submarine in Muskogee OK. I need to find a uniform and other kit items that would be in a radioman's gear abord a submarine in WW-II.

So I'm 16 and want to get into reenactment. Because I'm not old enough to use guns, I wanted to be an American Medic. I have a olive jacket, dark khaki pants, and brown boots. I didn't get them from a reenactment/replica store but they look close to it. I'm going to buy a helmet and a bag. I can make a stencil and spray paint on the red cross on to my helmet. I'm looking for recommendations on anything and if there are any places I can come and reenact near San Antonio, TX.

First recommendation: what you have must be period correct, meaning it must be WWII, not later. Find a unit first, then go from there. Just putting on some mix and match kit and pretending it's WWII isn't going to work. Ever.

Hello,
Army vet here (11b), 2002-2006 and got out a buck sergeant. I recently went to a WWII Living history thing in 1940s civilian clothes and decided that when I go back I need to be in uniform, haha. After all, that CIB didn't come easy. I usually do American Revolution but found this to be realllly neat.
I'm in the process of getting a Class B and A uniform together and continuing research on my old unit, the 11th Armored Cav Regiment (11th Cavalry Group, XIII Corps, 9th Army in WWII).
Glad to find something like this for WWII.
Thanks,
Dave

Hello, I am 13 and was wondering if anyone could lead me to a German Reenacting unit in Ohio that would be willing to recruit a 13 year-old like maybe as a Machinegunner's Assistant, a Medic, or just to be their for looks.

Greetings to all. While I am not a stranger to reenacting, living history, etc, I have a feeling that I am late to the party for this forum. I don’t do Facebook and it seems like most reenacting outfits will have a presence there rather than their own websites. I used to be a member of the USAAF yahoo group many moons ago. I’m hoping to make contact with some USAAF groups in the New England or Tri-State area and if not, it seems as though this forum might be a good resource for info.
I started reenacting as a WWII USAAF 9th Air Force fighter pilot while I was still living in my home state of Texas. My impression was limited to solo trips to air shows with no affiliation to any group. I was an actual pilot at the time and was flying a retired navy trainer. I worked for the USS Lexington Museum for three years and in 2000, was given an opportunity to be cast as an extra in the movie Pear Harbor. I ended up being Col. Jimmy Doolittle’s flight engineer. A year later, I was transferred to Connecticut (I served 12 years in the US Coast Guard and was deployed to Kuwait for a year during OIF.) and started working part time for Mystic Seaport Museum, a working 17 acre 19th century seaport/maritime museum.
As the 150th anniversaries of the Civil War battles approached, I decided to try my hand at reenacting that era. Marriage, homeownership, children, etc. happened shorty after and my priorities changed. I recently got the wild hair to revive my WWII USAAF impression. My old uniforms no longer fit as I’m 40 now and slightly larger. So, I’m back to gathering uniform components. This time, I’m going for three impressions- 5th AF P-38 pilot, 5th AF B-25 pilot, and 20th AF B-29 pilot. I feel as though USAAF is underrepresented, especially when it comes to the campaign in the Pacific.
All guidance and input is welcome. If there are any fellow USAAF reenactors present, I’d like to hear from you. Thanks.

So, I'm a German reenactor, and I have very sensitive skin and I can't bear wool touching my bare skin for an extended period of time. The Feldbluse is fine, because obviously they had a service shirt under it, but for pants, there's just the short underwear, so I need to wear modern pants under them and I can't find any examples of long underwear, or something along the lines of that. If anyone has any suggestions or proof they had long thermal underwear in ww2, that would be very welcome.
Cheers.

I’m John, checking in from Rochester NY. retirement affords many opportunities, one of which is meaningful, gratifying volunteer work. I’ve started putting in time at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo NY; a place I’ve attended airshows for decades. One of my new duties is museum tours.
following in footsteps made by my dad 65-70 years ago (US Civil War), I decided to go about assembling the necessary gear to portray a 1942 Guadalcanal USMC aviator. the war in the Pacific has always fascinated me, and between the library I’ve accumulated over a lifetime and the internet, the journey has been fascinating, thrilling, frustrating and educating.
I guess my questions are the same as all NUBs:
1) are there other folks out there re-enacting the same thing? are there squadrons?
2) where do folks have the best luck finding authentic gear? captains bars with pins, not clutchbacks? screw on EGA’s? flight helmets & corresponding radio gear? parachute harnesses?
3) to folks who’ve been at it for a while: any valuable lessons?
thanks all! be safe.

Thanks guys, I'm 13 and I was just wondering when i'd be able to join a unit. Just to let you know I have my own K-98, paintball gun, BB gun and shotgun I also have my hunting liscence(would any of that make a difference that i could do tacticals? just wondering). So would it be a matter of what my parents say or would it be the Unit commander? (I can also speak a bit of German.) Spartan It isn't even up to the Unit Commander. The insurance for the events is based on legal standards from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as well as state, county and local laws. Now that is only for firearms used in tacticals where a Unit Commander might let you join at 13 and participate in displays using a de-militarized weapon. All it takes to de-mil a weapon is pulling the firing pin and letting the CO keep it in his foot locker or glove box till after the event. The question is; are you dedicated enough to the hobby to do nothing but study for the next five years till you can participate in tacticals? Jim LMAO what planet do you live on ATF lol , yeah okay sure . been watching teens play in this hobby for 30 + years with no issue you sound like a libshit this forum is DEAD with capital D ghost town it is like a web grave yard cannot believe it even still exists
