Hi there. As many people who have posted in this thread, I'm just getting into the idea of reenacting. This website has already helped me a bit, particularly the recruiting desk. From the searching I had done through google and what not, I was beginning to think there weren't any units in Delaware. Anyway, my question is this. I have the basic idea of what I want my impression to be. I'm gonna start out with GI Infantry, and possibly develop a medic. I'm wondering though how in depth into making these characters I should go. I know in one of the websites people have talked about they have a sheet for coming up with ideas, but I'm not certain how helpful it is. Obviously I should come up with a name and rank, but what else should I come up with? Any help would be appreciated. (I just found the sheet I was talking about. www.hardscrabblefarm.com/ww2/first_person_sheet.htmIn particular I'm not sure what a few of the things are, like ASN, MOS, What is the ATSP Program?)

ASN is the Army Serial Number. Every troop got one of theseupon enlisting or being drafted. The number depended on whether you were an officer, enlisted, National Guard or Draftee. For instance, an enlisted ASN would begin with a 1, the draftee number would begin with a 3. The next set would determine the region you came from the next set would be your identifying number. The MOS stands for Military Occupational Specialty. That would be the job you had in the military. Ie Rifleman, medic, mechanic, armorer, tanker, pilot, navigator, gunner ect. The ATSP program was a leadership program very early in the war in which highly intellegent trainees were put into the program to further develop their skills and leadership abilities among other goals of the program. The program was discontinued and the ATSPers as they were called were sent to regular infantry units as replacements. Hope this helps

Thanks helpinghand, I appreciate that clarification. If I end up trying to use that first person sheet thing, it should be a bit easier now.

Hi: I am new to posting here. I would like some information about a U.S. World War II reenacting group I saw at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan on Father's Day, June 15, 2008. I do not know the unit. I am a woman and I have some authentic U.S. WWII costume, which I obtained from my Grandfather who served in Africa and Italy. I am potentially interested in joining this group. Can anyone help me locate them?

Thank you sgttom. I will search for these units and see if I can find a website, e-mail or other contact information. I usually search using GOOGLE, but perhaps you know of a better method? Is this board a good place to start? Thank you

Hey Btucker3, There are several units down here but, to my knowledge only one REALLY IN Charleston. That unit is 6th & 7th Bn.'s, King's Own Scottish Borderers, Br. 3rd Infantry Division. Last I remember Stacey Brogden was the CO. However, that was back in 05'. They're website is located here: www.geocities.com/kosbww2/Other units located near you, one is my unit: Able Company, U.S. 30th Infantry Regiment, U.S. 3rd Infantry Division. We're a hardcore type unit and we're based out of Fort Screven in Savannah, Georgia. Our website is located at: www.geocities.com/aco_30thir_3rdid/ We also have a unit forum at the very bottom of our home page. Just click on "FRISCAN'S FORUMS" and it'll take you to it. We'll be holding a drill out at Fort Screven this weekend in fact. We have eighth members and two of them are from in and around the Summerville, SC area. In Columbia, SC is Fox Co., U.S. 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, U.S. 82nd Airborne Division, they're website is located here: www.foxcompany505.org/Also in the Savannah area is Headquarters Co., U.S. 36th Armored Infantry Battalion, U.S. 3rd Armored Division. They're website is located here: www.blitzdoughs.comThese are the units that are probably going to be the closest to you, I hope this helps you out. Regards, FRISCAN

I know we have Charlestonian reenactors in forum, I've discussed your new American LaFrance museum with them. If your willing to swim a little there is also the USS North Carolina in Wilmington, NC.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Tour De LaFrance when it came though Willoughby and got to drive the 1911 roadster back in the 90's. Now that American LaFrance is 100% American again they should have the breathing room to make that museum really something. cms.firehouse.com/web/online/News/American-LaFrance-Announces-Reorganization-Plans/46$60239Jim

Lafrance is 100% american and there is not much of that around anymore that is for sure. Maybe I can get a 100% living history and reenactment unit here in Charleston. There just seams to be to many people in this area to not have one I would think.

From about 95 to 06 LaFrance fell under Chrysler/Benz and they wrestled themselves loose again.
With this being summer holiday and the one reenactor I rember also being fire department and subject to 24 hour shift rotation give them a chance to see the thread. You boys pull some strange shifts and he's probably just out bbq'ing his rump or getting his ashes hauled. Man I can make fire fighter jokes all day long.
But again your in a great location with SOV going on outside Colombia and the Mighty 8th Museum down in Savana.
Oh, and some of the boys from your neck of the woods are deployed to the sand box so they post sporadically.

Why do fireman wear suspenders? To keep there pants up. I got a few fireman jokes too. I agree I think I am in a great location. The question is how do I get it out there. And Im trying to do some research on a good impression, I want to be as original and authintic as possible. My grandfather was in 506 PIR 2bn d company I think.
