Two quick questions
I found a unit but currently have no gear, how much would it roughly cost to do a paratrooper impression?
After reading/watching movies the guys of ww2 are rugged and get the message across with their attitude most of the time. While doing living history at an airshow how would you portray how you truly feel? now I'm not saying im gonna be cursing left and right, putting everyone down but I am curious

The cost of your impression really depends on how you approach it. If you quickly buy everything new from Vendors and such a complete impression with rifle can run up to $2000 or more. If you take it slow and be thrifty you could pull it off for $1000 or less.

Hey Folks! Well, I am a 20-year American Civil War 'nactor (portraying a US Army Surgeon) that's getting ready to "hang it up". My son will be "of age" here in 4 years. He has expressed his "interest" to reenact WWII. Well, my Grand-dad is a WWII Vet and, survivor of the Bataan Death March. With my son wanting to get into WWII reenacting when he is "of age", I will too. Instead of "rushing out" to buy everything at one time, we're going to piece our kits (or however its referred to within the realm of WWII 'nacting) over the next couple of years. Now obviously, our uniform items we will wait to get until we're ready to "hit the field". I have opened a line of communication with the 5th Rangers. I have no idea what other units/groups are in the region?? Also, I will be keeping a keen eye (LOL) out for folks selling gear and equipment (not to mention uniform items). So, please bear with me as I may lean on you "veteran reenactors", from time to time for advice or guidance .

Hello all, just found your site, it looks great. I'm new also to reenacting. I have already done one event in Lowell In. and I had a blast. I joined the 82nd Airborne 505th Co. G. , Capt. Sheets is my Co. My membership is HRS. I was wondering how many reenact ors are in Ohio. My unit is in Indiana and most of the events are pretty far away. I was trying to get a feel of the events in Ohio. I'm going to an event in Camden Ohio the 23rd of Oct. This is a tactical and will be the first time without my unit. I want to know if there are big events I can go to next year and if anybody has info to pass on for me. Thanks

I dont know how good their complete impressions are, but I bought one of their Garrison caps and their '43s, and they're both really good quality.

I'm probably going to be a medic or ammo carrier for the BAR to start out with since I don't have the $$$ for a rifle yet. 2ndidmedic, you're links were interesting and had a lot of good info in them, thanks for posting them.

I am new to reenacting. I was glad to find this board. Over the years I have always wanted to do it, but never went full throttle! Now is the time. I am in Philly, and it looks like I have found a unit (9th SS). Hopefully I will be able to meet up with them this weekend, and let them look over my gear (please don't let it suck!)
Thanks to everyone on the board, especially the "Old Salts" who lend us new guys a hand with information!!

Take a look here: www.wwiidaybyday.com/Go to uniformen then click on the WSS link, then go to Dienstgrad. It has info on WSS uniforms. There are tons of reference books out there as well, the Osprey one you used the picture from for your banner will help. Hit the books Landser! Lee

Hi I'm new as well. Currently talking to a nice group of guys and they directed me here. I'm also a fatso but at 6'3 I'm hoping to get down to 235lb by the time I get started. Part of the reason wife is for me getting into this hobby. I also have some disability as far as my back but the group I found seem very open minded willing to let me play other roles besides front line guy. Anyway my main question is about weapons and sorry if this sounds stupid because my only experience is with seeing revolutionary war and civil war peeps. I have no problem finding k98's and right now maybe a real mp40 because of friends and family and the State I'm in. I'm curious as do you covert these to blank firing weapons or do you just say 'bang'? I've seen good prices on cap firers though as stated earlier I'd hate to be chasing down empty shells. So any suggestions? I also like the G-43 and either case would like to stay under a couple of grand and find something where ammo doesnt cost an arm and a leg every time I would go to an event. Also I'm looking into Long River Motorworks and the ww2 like bikes they, are these generally accepted or should I not worry as long as my group accepts them? Anywho any help would be great and thanks. Oh and very helpful site here.
