Folks, I am going to let everyone in on a little secret of mine. Here is an awesome collection of large format Signal Corps photos of the Normandy campaign. there as highly details photos for everyone, Brit, Canadian, US, Airborne, German, Female, Medic, etc. Here is the link to the search site sponsored by the government of Normandy. www.ceris-normandie.com/archivesnormandie/rech.phpThe Signal Corp photos are free from copyright. The search engine is in French but I will let everyone in the back door. www.ceris-normandie.com/archivesnormandie/PhotosHD/There are no captions but the photos are great. I filled three complete CDs with.jpeg images. You will see a lot of the famious photos from recent books and a lot of never before seen images. Once everyone starts hitting it I'm sure it will crash and there is no telling how long the images will remain posted. Enjoy!

Faabala!
Thank you for sharing ...
I´d know some of the pics from booklets i purchased in France - but 95 % of them are unknown for me ...
For me it took at least 7 !!!! cd´s to get all pics saved - was the "job" of 2 weeks ...

Very nice archive you found there. Some pretty impressive photos. It always amazes me how some parts of Europe look the same now as when it did in those photos. Well the un-destroyed areas.

Great pictures, unfortunately I have dial-up and the two week ordeal of downloading them would take months. Would it be possible to make a copy of your CD's and send them to me? Of course I'll pay for the expenses, ect. PM me the details. Thanks.

I can't believe that none of our computer savy members can track down the database for the captions, info, etc. I tried looking around, but have been unable to locate it. I just don't know enough about internet coding and structure to find it. I read through the source files (as small as they are) but couldn't find a good reference anywhere. All of that *.php stuff is Greek to me! ;-)
As far as the pics, great stuff! I have been changing my desktop every day at work. Everyone always asks what the pic of the day is, date, etc.

If you go to the front door of the site there are no real good captions even in French. Which is too bad.

What I was referring to is the captioning and info available via the "RECHERCHE" page. If you type the name of the picture, i.e. p000001, into the "référence" field, you will get a photo date, copyright info and a quick caption. This information, in my mind at least, is being pulled from a database somewhere. Although I consider myself pretty internet savvy, this is beyond me to find its location. Maybe somebody here could find it. :-)

There are laws out there to rule which actions are legal and which not! To allow access and download of such pics is pretty honest - so if i where you i would keep my hands of such things and do it the hard way like some others of us already did. Download and burn of the pics consumed my complete lunchtime of 2 weeks + additional hours in my home-office. I offer each of you to send copies of the cd´s without any charge except price of cd + shipping - but i´m located in Germany ... So is up to you to maybe think over my comment ... Rot

I have downloaded every one of the photos just as you did over lunch hours. Lots of time and lots of CD's! ;D As far as database, I don't think you are understanding what I am referring to. I am referring to a database in the truest sense and not a reference to a computer or central protected files. That is, a single file that houses data, in this particular case, the file that contains the captioning, refs, etc. for the pics. If I knew php structure, I could locate the file that is being called and download it. It is a simple file that I am referring to, one that houses text information for pictures only, and wanting to download. If the file is publicly accessible, access, i.e. downloading only, to that file is not illegal as you alluded could be. My intentions are nothing but legit and not illegal or devious in nature. FYI, I do have a couple of emails off to ACAAN regarding this captioning information. Currently, I am searching each picture, translating the caption, copyright info, etc. and transferring that to a word document. I have spent many moons doing this and many more to come!

Not a problem! If I get any word back on securing the captions, etc., I will let everyone know.

There are so many interesting pics in that archive and I love to see some of these thrown up with soome commentary. I would have to think that many of those photos would be a great source of conversation here and for folks that are fairly new to the hobby such as myself ,there would be plenty to learn from that commentary. Such as this one for example. www.ceris-normandie.com/archivesnormandie/PhotosHD/p000008.jpgJust a thought
