Multiple emails have been sent, but no replies. I was manually translating them, but had to take a break because of our new house and new baby.
I have up to picture p000777 completed and formatted. I have translations for nearly twice that, but they need to be formatted. I believe I have around 35 pages worth of translated captions so far. It equates to approximately 1/8 of the total number of pics in the archive. Long way to go yet!

From what I have been able to gather, the missing photos are those in the collection of unknown origin, private collection, etc. where copyrighting is an issue. I just wish, as I am sure you were implying, that we could see the missing photos too!

The tractors are I think called "goliaths", they were built as a secret weapon by the germans and packed with explosives, the plan was to have them drive by remote control onto the landing craft and detonate. Fortunately there are no recorded accounts of their use. I believe steven ambrose mentions them briefly in his D-Day book.

This is really late, but if you go to the search engine page for this site. Type in 'Utah' or whatever in the first field labeled "1 er mot" you will get all of the photos related to that keyword with date and caption. Sorry though, the captions are in French. Matt Reed

Kieran "K-Rat" Youngberg I've talked to vets from one of the Naval Beach Battalions about the Goliaths. They actually brought a couple home when they came back to the states from Europe. As they were trying to get off the boat, the Army officer that was inprocessing them told them that they couldn't bring them (the Goliaths) into the states. So this gentleman and his buddies pushed them off the deck into the ocean in New York harbor. Dave
