Hello, I'm fairly new to reenacting and I have been wandering through this site for the past couple hours. I have noticed a plethora of great information and support. I have also noticed a concerning hypocrisy. Many, MANY reenactors especially "seasoned ones" are very quick to coldly pass judgement on new-comers and people genuinely trying to put together a fairly decent impression, (one gentleman seemed to skate close to crucifixion for having a period baseball glove included). A few observations that I felt were positive are: he wasn't another member of Easy 506th, who we all know was the only unit in the ETO and we couldn't have won the war without them. Speaking of paratroopers, this man wouldn't have maxed out the weight limit for a T-5 or age the limit to warrant a serious concern for fall risks. He actually tried looking DIRTY (not like he snuck back to the motel while picking up pizza and beer to take a shower). MOST IMPORTANTLY, he was genuinely trying. I hear it all too often how guys are worried about the future of reenacting. That young people are actually showing an genuine interest and attempting to learn the history beyond BoB, or Call of Duty is encouraging. I UNDERSTAND constructive criticism and I think that it's an integral part of this, it's called growth. Nurture that, just take a minute to understand that times have changed, people start somewhere, and its flat out discouraging and even off-putting for others (myself included, one of the reason's why I took a break. Bizarre egos based on illusion were plainly...too bizarre, especially from those to criticize everything while staring at you with a modern pair of light adjusting glasses. Who wants to be a part of that, let alone invest hard earned money into it?) Before any one feels butt hurt, again, keep it in perspective. HELP out without degrading. For this one particular individual I cited, there were many that applauded and encouraged him and I would say that the majority of people on here are amazing and I hope to learn more from you. I'm sorry if this is an odd first post, but it's concerning and an observation. Always good to not shoot the hobby in the foot, right?
