I have been doing reenacting on and off for about four years now. The issue with me is that I am active duty military which causes me to move a lot and with moving comes trying to find a new unit to join. With joining a new unit comes getting new gear and sometimes uniform changes. I didn't mind this at first but since I am planing on staying in for much longer I can see this becoming a hassle. A few months ago I had to write a paper for a college class on Colonel Von Stauffenberg which led to an idea. Instead of just doing an impression of a standard wehrmacht soldier, I was thinking I would do a Stauffenberg impression. I wanted to run this by others in the community to see what you think of this. I have never seen anyone do this or an impression of a well known officer at any event. Of course I would study his life inside and out and go all in if I do this but I would like everyones thoughts. Thank you in advance.

Are you planning on presenting you paper as von Stauffenberg, reflecting on 'your' life and why 'you' decided to knock off Der Fueher? Or are you just presenting it in the third person, ie. you, while dressed as v. Staffenberg? If you are presenting it as v. Stauffenberg, in the 1st person, then go for it, it might work. If you do it as a normal presentation, while dressed as v. Stauffenberg then i'm afraid they will probably see you as a neo Nazi looking for an excuse to "dress up". It will also be interesting to note peoples' reactions as you walk from the parking lot to your classroom dressed as v. S.. Good luck.

Oh no it's not for my class. It's for going to other reenacting events with a stauffenberg impression

I always cringe when I am at any event and I see someone that is specifically trying to look like a real life WW2 person. 99% which might as well be every time, they in no way look like the person or act like the person. And I will give an exaple, in Kansas we have an individual that goes to airshows and other events they are "paid" to be at to act like Ike. And he does an ok job for what he is hired for and does know his history well enough when he talks with people. In uniform I always gave him the officer and position respect the uniform deserved, but it always kind of put me off when they try and talk in first person like they were "there".

If you go through with the idea, i'd say stockpile images of him in his dress uniform to make sure you get everything down (to the haircut if your that into it) Soloution two is have very very common german impression no patches, and then all you'd have to do is borrow patches

Or just put together a standard 1944 US Infantry impression (ETO) and you should be able "fall in" with most "run of the mill" ETO Infantry units. You'd just have to change out your patches. OR, go frontline and wear no patches. Dave

Or just pick a unit and stick with them. I'm also Active Duty (Air Force), and even though I've been on the west coast for over 6 years, I still travel to make events with my original unit I joined on the east coast over 8 years ago. I also belong to a unit here in California, as well as have a multitude of impressions from WWI all the way to Vietnam.
