I am about to order a pair of Service Shoes Type II at "sm wholesale usa" But before I do so, I would to know if anyone has any experience with this webshop. The reverences on the site itself sound fine. but I would like a second opinion from the fine people of this board. So what do you think?

I ordered some german low boots from them. The boots were marked 9's but were 2 physically different sizes? They corrected the errors promptly. The boots are OK at best, certainly not worth what I paid for them. Thats all I have.

I unknowingly (at the time) bought a pair of type IIs from them via their secret hidden identity on Ebay "Madison boot." I have since sold them, they made my feet bleed. I asked for a extra wide, they told me they were extra wide - they weren't. They looked OK, BUT .... I contacted "Madison boot" again and was told to: "stretch them out" via the shower and wearing them. I tried stretching them out via my boot stretchers, water and neats foot oil - not much help. They stretched enough so I could wear them without huge foot pain, but not for long, and my toes started to bleed. I threw in the towel and sold them to another reenactor who didn't need wide's ... as far as I know, he is happy with them? I wasn't. I bought some WW II Impression type IIs - took 2 plus years to get, but good boots and plenty wide for us barefoot water skiers. Dave

I ordered a pair on Friday last week and got them today. Not bad for California to Cleveland, Ohio. The quality of the pair that I purchased is excellent. Price was the biggest choice as they were much cheaper than WW2 Impressions.

You NEVER buy cheap shoes. You only have one pair of feet. Your choice, don't say you weren't warned.

For me, there is nothing wrong with the quality of the shoes that I recently purchased from SM. Personally, they fit my feet well and are very well constructed of quality materials. Others may think differently. Everyone has an opinion and they can do whatever suits them. The unfortunate thing is that we in the reenacting world, are somewhat limited to only a few vendors and are somewhat at their mercy regarding price ranges and selection. I would not even think of wearing original 70 year old boots. What matters is, to make sure that whatever shoe or boot that you purchase is properly sized and broken in before wearing to any reenacting activity. Last year at Conneaut D-Day, I treated several pairs of feet for blisters caused by people wearing service shoes and paratrooper boots, both "cheap" and expensive, for the very first time at the event who did not take the time to properly break them in. One particular reenactor bought a brand new pair of paratrooper boots from WW2 Impressions who was selling there. He started wearing them immediately that day and soon wondered why the next day that his heels were blistered and ankle rubbed raw, to the point that he could not put anything but a flip flop on his foot. I am careful when purchasing things for reenacting. I also have to purchase what I can afford.

You pure-ests would shun me for this , but when it comes time to re-sole any of my boots, I go with Vibram soles. I've spent to many times looking up at the sky because I have slipped and fallen. I even have a pair of low boots I use for Red Army tacticals, that I had re-soled with Lug soles. I'm tired of falling down. Plus when you get older, it hurts more. Dave

I purchased rough-out boondockers from them and I am extremely happy with them. I have a set of dungarees from At the Front and I look forward to having a second set from them as well.
