I don't know why we even bother... The new generation is bound and determined to make history fit their personal wants... Do whatever floats your boat. Don't forget the all homosexual battalions, the quad and crutch Armies, not to mention the blind Corps that were out there, on the front lines. No wonder the world is so screwed up. This was pretty funny Doc! +1 Sarge

If I am at a large tactical event, I don't care if the soldiers I see on the field are male, female or anything else as long as they play fair. They are all just uniforms moving around as far as I am concerned. I know doc won't agree with me, but this 63 year old white guy doesn't care.

So play soldier and don't worry about anything authenticity wise. MRAP Death Star jeeps. VN boots. Full auto KAR98s, Beards.... Why are you doing it then? Why aren't you all members of SCA? That's more the speed it seems.
But PLEASE don't tell me you do it to honor the Vets.

Putting words in my mouth without knowing me. That goes on a lot in this political climate. I drive an unarmed jeep and park it out of site, using the cover of the terrain as best I can. I use an smle, of the type appropriate for the time period I am doing, shoes do have molded soles because I am around vehicles, and owners don't like scratches and safety is important. no beard, sorry, but I am a older guy, but not too out of shape. but the people running around me can be whatever their gender happens to be.

On gender, I know an attractive woman who does a Wermacht male impression very effectively.
On race, there were Arab SS troops, and I've read about 100 of them died defending the Reichstag.

Find a unit that will take you/her what ever. It's all about numbers anyway. The "My Historical Experience" types most of the time bottom out anyway. Most of the axis do 1946 "Nazi, who me?" and the Russian do 1991 "Oh those communists" and the Japanese do "Who dropped the atom bomb?". Reenactors rewrite history all the time..err I mean present their own view (Which I guess is why the Army calls them "Historical Interpreters". Like any social grouping if you have an in, cool. If you don't, tough. The same folks that bad mouth one exception will no doubt parade the exception around to show how open they are. It is the Greek system, and some frats think they are better then others. Come on it's about being true to history, you know like the SS fighting in Sicily, or US armor troops fighting in Market Garden, or US airborne troops taking part in COBRA. Having divisions of 6 troops or less. Don't forget the military chain of "This is what I want to do" I can't recall if that was Prussian, or post WW1 when that philosophy took hold in most senior commands around the world. I am not sure but maybe the Imperial Japanese Army used that when they attacked the Soviet Union in the 30's. If you want to learn about WW2 besides the material culture of equipment, weapons, uniforms, then you are off on your own anyway because this is an agenda hobby. But the "I don't support the Nazis" was a nice touch if only for the fact it is the statement which judges everyone else's motivations. Can't forget the what about the xyz person, they don't fit either, but I have military training...Great start a GWOT OEF/OIF/where ever else we are fighting now. Current military training and culture is great if you plan to reenact the SS in Band of Buddies series (Faceless extras), not allot in WW2.

Actually... There are a few units who stick to accuracy and have standards. These units DON'T make up history to fit their agendas, don't attend tacticals that their units weren't at, etc. it's insulting to me, to those who take great pains to portray the GI in WWII, warts and all, in order to keep history alive.
Those of you, many of you, just want to go bang-bang and argue about it. It appears that the ME Generation, and GEN Xers, are just as happy to take the lazy way, argue that women were in combat, flew fighters over Tokyo, bombed El Alamein in the Polish RAF, were part of the 82nd drop over Paris, Negro Soldiers were assigned as OSS to the LSAH, etc. etc.
For those FEW out there, who take the time and do it right, WELL DONE! To those who just run around playing shoot 'em up: you're a pox on historical Reenacting.. Go play SCA...

Doc - Thank you for pointing out the only correct way to reenact. What is the bible that laid that out for you?
