Hello! i'm new to this whole thing, but I am very determined to get a full 1935-1939 era early war german uniform. its just so hard to know exactly what equipment to use. i want to know exact specifics. internal suspenders or Y-straps? A-frame set or fur tornister? exactly what boots? grey or green pants?
anything helps! i just want to know exactly what i need to wear, not where to buy things. or pricing. or anything like that. just exactly what standard infantry of the era wore.
thank you!

Get a copy of Davis's book on the German Army Uniforms. It will answer your questions. There are photos of what is commonly called the M1940 Tunic being worn in 1938& 1939. You really need to determining what your unit wore, when, and where.

To a SMALL extent. It covers basic equipment, however does not go into specialized equipment. Look at TM-E 30-451 Handbook on German Mil1tary Forces 1945. www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/Germany/HB/index.html covers a lot of German equipment.

It covers all time frames. Your German Infantry man had the same basic gear in 1945 that he had in 1939. What unit, when, where drives a lot of your equipment choice. There are several books available (Blitzkrieg-the Unpublished Photographs 1939-1942, Ian Baxter as an example,Cyrus Lee's SOLDAT series as another) that will show you what you seek. Blitzkrieg shows different style tunics worn at the same time. It shows what is considered prewar uniform being worn what at the same time as the M40 tunic in the Sudetenland! Just take some time to research. You'll find out more than us just telling you and you gain in the process. As a start look at this: www.atthefrontshop.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=468 You see that different tunics were issued in overlapping timeframes, and PHOTOS CONFIRM THIS. The TM, in Chapter IX Section VII Individual Equipment covers German Equipment with changes throughout the war. By using the model numbers in the text (e.g., Model 34 Rucksack) the web will show you examples of them. Usually you will have to enter search terms such as German WWII Model 39 Rucksack. Enjoy your search --
