Is it better to sew the insignia by hand or have it sewn on with a machine? Hand sewing, whats the most accurate way to stich? Straight, cross or it dosn't matter. Im asking for a 41 jacket.

I would say it depends on if you plan on re-patching, or going slick sleeved depending on different event scenarios. It is a ton easier to pull off a hand sewn patch then it is to a machine sewn one. I machine sew all of my class a ssi on, but tend to hand sew of go slick sleeved on my field uniforms.

I use a whip stitch by hand for all my patches, I just pin them on and sew them down pretty quick process now that I've been doing it for a while.

I sew by hand with no particular pattern. I doubt most GIs knew how to sew.

Was it common for the GI's to match the color thread to the patch or it didnt matter. I sewed my chevrons on my 41 jacket useing tan thread, should i of used black. I was thinking they would of just used what they had in there sewing kit

I've used black, blue but mostly Tan since that kinda works for all patches and uniforms. I've encountered both on originals as well.

GI's actually were very good at hand sewing items. In the field you learn how to sew in order to keep your uniforms in good shape.
