Frank Thurston enlisted (well, got his Draft # called) in 1943 and left college (were he was majoring in Civil Engineering) and joined the Army. Due to the genius of the Army placement system, he was placed in the engineers with Co. B 153rd Engineer Construction Battalion then stationed/training at Fort Lewis, WA. After training the 153rd left for the PTO and did time in New Guinea, The Philippines and Occupation in Yokohama, Japan before being sent home in 1946. He entered as a Pvt and came home a Master Sgt at the ripe old age of 23 (in 1946). Thanks to the efforts of my grandmother, she kept everything he sent home. I have all the photos that survived, every letter he wrote home and most every rank patch he was issued (he didn't need them in the pacific, so he mailed them home for safe keeping!) Below is a link of the some of the pictures my Grandfather took during his time in the service from 1943-1946 that I have been able to scan in. www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.723208068717.1073741827.64600003&type=1&l=17bba335b1
