I don't know USMC gear well enough to know for specific battles what is correct but I will comment on the two things that stood out to me. The good thing. Way to go on your M1. Lock-bars, 1907 sling, from an outward appearance it's WW2, well done. Now the bad thing. You need a tapered haircut desperately. Doesn't matter if your impression otherwise is spot on if you don't have a correct haircut. It's kinda like wearing a black tuxedo with a pair of brown shoes. Good luck with your impression Bill

I would move the jungle first aid kit to the back of your 782 gear the way you have it set up it will beat you to death when you run. also when you can get some USMC suspenders for your gear. Minor stuff you look good.

I agree with gijills on the Jungle FAK, slide it on the adjustment part of the cartridge belt. That way it is out the way when you go prone. I dont think you need to get the suspenders though. Most pictures ive seen its about 50/50 with guys wearing them or not wearing them, so its really up to you. Also you may want to get a bandoleer.
Looks good!

i have both the suspenders and pack but did not put them on because i have seen many pics of marines not wearing them.thanks for the idea about the placement of the FAK,never thought of that spot before.i definatly agree with you about the haircut, but what do you mean by tapered?i will post a updated pic in a few days with a haircut and the bandoleer, maybe suspenders.any ideas in replicating coral dust?

What you have is kinda like a box cut. it is left long and trined off straight. tapered is cut really short at the begining of the hairline and as it goes up the back of the neck it gets longer.

Good work! Is that army style belt buckle you are wearing?

yes, is their a diff. between army and usmc belt buckles?was not aware of that thanks. There isn't in the buckle, but in the belt itself, or the markings, rather. Essentially, the Army belt has the "US" stamp on the first pocket on the right side, and the USMC belt does not. The USMC belt is also marked "USMC" on the side of the belt that is against your abdomen. Army M1923 Cartridge Belt: www.wwiiimpressions.com/images/cartridgebeltarmy1.JPGUSMC M1923 Cartridge Belt: www.wwiiimpressions.com/USMCwebgearpages/PICT1399.JPGAlso of interest is that the M1910 "woven" or "puckered" style cartridge belt, seen here: www.hayesotoupalik.com/images/DSCF3172.jpgSeems to have stayed in service with the USMC much longer than with the Army. It is quite common among Marines up through Tarawa, at least. Thanks, -Shawn P.S. You have a great start on your impression! Though, as others have said, a haircut would be advisable.

Im pretty sure Gump is refering to the trouser belt. Marines had a brass buckle that wasnt blackened if I remember correctly. Also i think the belt was a little wider then the Army style.

USMC trouser belt buckle is a 3-piece deal (frame and two hinged teeth sections) that is a bit larger and has more rounded edges and corners than an army one. They were issued black, but the finish was often worn off or intentionally removed by individual Marines. Your cheapest route would be to buy a worn out, dull-looking post-war one, as nobody reproduces them and originals go for $25 and up.
By the way, nice impression!

That one looks alright, if you know what you are talking about you can tell the difference but that would work, for the most part your jacket will cover that up anyways.

would a usmc 5 snap carbine trouser belt work if i just changed out the belt itself and kept the buckle?

A regular trouser belt is more common, I would go with that.

would a usmc 5 snap carbine trouser belt work if i just changed out the belt itself and kept the buckle? Think he's saying he wants to exchange the buttoned belt for a plain one and keep the buckle, am I right? If you have the money or luck out and get one cheap, go for it!
