I have received about a dozen requests to know if this ammunition is an acceptable blank for reenactment use. Picture of rounds from Dans Ammo web site. i6.photobucket.com/albums/y206/Oberschutze916/platicA.jpgThe short answer is absolutely not. These are NOT blanks. The round is a short range training round. (Sometimes called Low shooting round in some counties.) They are very loud and there is a small rumor going around that these work well in Mausers. The round is designed with a 10 grain (very light weight) solid plastic projectile. This projectile is claimed to have a velocity of 4,700 feet per second. Picture of fired and recovered projectile. i6.photobucket.com/albums/y206/Oberschutze916/plastic3.jpgAfter being asked about these again today I went out and shot a coffee can at 50 yards. Only 2 rounds went through the can, but the can was almost crushed from the impact of the rounds. 10 grains is not much but the velocity is very high. I have seen people fire off groups on paper at 100 yards. Anyone seen with these at a reenactment should have them removed from use. These rounds can be fatal if you are shot with them. I haven't seen these in the field, but have had enough people tell me that they "heard they would work" to remind everyone that these are in fact ammunition and not blanks. Be safe out there guys.
