Hey Guys and Gals-
Professionally, I'm a Police Officer, and have been for the past five years. I'm interested in putting together a home front Police Officer impression, specifically something along the lines of NYPD.
I'm of a medium to large build, wearing a size 35-36 waist, and probably a 15-16 shirt.
Does anyone have any idea where I may be able to get vintage uniforms or equipment?

Hello, nice idea. Does New York's Finest have a museum or a uniform collection where you could check what exactly they wore?
best regards, FJR6

I know they carry some vintage NYC buttons and miscellanea; maybe they have items from the NYPD. www.ssfirearms.comHope it helps . . .

I've been watching this whole 1940's police impression, I was also interested in starting a 1940's police or sheriff impression. However does anyone know what legal implications their might be "impersonating a law enforcement officer." Granted the 1940's police uniforms look like nothing modern day, however someone might mistake you. I only ask because I'm in college for criminology and want to go into law enforcement and I don't need a criminal record! Maybe I might just put together a US Tresury officer impression with a double breated suit, trousers, spatz, and a fedora hat. Regards, Pte. Mills

After Talking with Pte. Mills earlier Ive decided I'm going to put together a "G-man" FBI impression to wear as a Friday impression at events. I'll be out there with my Chicago Typewriter looking for characters suspected of espionage so watch out!

I should just wear mine the whole event... as a treasury officer impression I can just aimlessly wander through the woods looking for bank robber hide-outs and moonshine stills. That would be interesting to see the re-actions on the faces of the Germans... "Oh look it's a Gestapo impression!" "Sorry fellas, It's the U.S. Treasury department..." Regards, Pte. Mills

Speaking as a police officer, honestly, you should not have any trouble regarding "impersonating a police officer" as the outfit is outdated and no where near today's uniforms. If you looked like a MODERN NYPD officer (or likewise), THEN you'd have a problem... just be careful when in public with a weapon.

Not to mention that you would not be considered "impersonating a police officer" unless you were actually attemting to pursue a level of law enforcement against another party. If you don't attempt to arrest anyone or write them a citation, you should be fine.

Makes me want to take up a 1940s FDNY impression. Don't know what purpose it would serve but it's original.
