Hello my name is Moe and I am new to the site, thanks for having me. My question concerns adding sound effects to a vehicle. I am in the process of restoring a Military Jeep and would like to add sound effects resembling machine gun fire, my jeep will have a dummy machine gun and I sure would love to wire in something that I could control with a switch that I could incorporate into the gun. Does anyone make a 12 volt sound machine with gun fire included. Thanks In Advance

Interesting concept, and kind of do-able actually, maybe.
Problems lie with getting a speaker to actually put out around 160 decibels to replicate actual gunfire. Also, without a muzzle flash or some kind of report from the dummy gun and/or spent casing falling out, it would be a hard sell to anyone watching it.
Good luck.

Have you considered converting your dummy gun to propane?

There is a guy who did this for a 50 on his jeep. It is the butt of many jokes and when it shows up in photos. I have heard people openly mock him at events for bringing it out.

^ Yeah, that was my first thought as well. The whole idea just seems a bit silly. In my opinion, either convert the gun to propane or leave it as is. No matter how good a speaker set up you have, you will never convince people it's real. Then the topic will quickly turn to "Why did he do that?! That's kinda lame."

Have any of you Propane guys tried using oxygen and acetylene in your guns? I have herd some guns that did use this mix and they made more of a hammering/ banging sound as opposed to a taping or popping sound. Or are their other options besides propane that would improve the sound? So far Blank fire is still best simulated fire - blank fire only .50s & .30s? Dave

Dave Dave, we use a two bottle mix on our .30 and propane on our .50, I call all gas guns "propane" as a catchall term. The .50cal has a nice "Boom" to it, and the .30cals almost sound better/louder then our semi-autos that run .308 Military blanks. One of the guys in our unit built the gas mechanisms, a lot of it it playing around with the mixture (on the oxy/acet) to get it right for the gun.

My A6 runs like a sewing machine and it may not sound like a full auto but it beats the snot out of a semi blank fire..............
