Interesting photo in regards to the helmet cover. NOT saying it is... but kinda looks like it is made from a Russian ameba pattern suit. Now noting his rank this would defiantly be the exception rather than the rule!

The camo also reminds me of Hungarian camo, or even Italian.

the ppsh in the 1st photo looks like a later style front sight with the hood,an the 2nd ppsh has early tangent style rear sight,i don't think those were used in conjuction with one another but i could be wrong,i always thought the early ppsh sight lacked a protective hood.
i just noticed the pattern of camo on the cover is identical in both photo's so maybe it is the same guy,and they both appear to have binoculars

I have seen a portrait of that officer with the broken sturmabzeichen, I just can't find it!
