Rob,
I would grab an M2 Jungle first aid pouch, what color is the grenade painted? OD and yellow are both accurate for Peleliu.

Ok, yeah I do have an M2 F/A pouch in my "Marine" box. The grenade is OD because that is the only one I have and I use it for ETO as well. I do need to pick up some more, mainly just some more spoons.

A very authentic "victory grin" with the meatball flag! Well done!

Impression looks good, like you said the P41 trousers are a better choice for Pelielu . As far as the army pouch I would not worry to much about that to much. I don't see what is wrong with the helmet cover?

Thanks Vudu, The flag my Grandpa took as a souvenir form his time in the Pacific.
Peter, the Camouflage Cover and P42 Trousers I have, were made by ATF a few years ago from fabric leftover from the movie WindTalkers. The fabric has two flaws, one on the Tan side they left out a shape and on the Green side one of the shapes is the wrong color. I is a small error to some, but I can not live with it now that I found it for my self and see it every time I wear the stuff.

Looks like a good start to me and you've already got plans to improve. Just curious what type of leggings you've got on. Bill

Just curious what type of leggings you've got on. They are the six hook Navy/Marine Corps.

PFC. Pursifull
Understandable from the picture you could not tell the flaw.

I am attending Thunder with Pursifull, it is also my first attempt at doing USMC. So I am wondering for Peleliu, which side of the camo would be out for my helmet cover? I would guess the more jungle green looking side? Ryan

It is really your preference. I have seen both green and brown being worn on beach assaults.

I don't think it's completely accurate to say that wear of the helmet cover was based on personal preference. Often it was a lower level unit directive that determined wear and pretty much from Peleliu on, possibly sooner, the brown side was more prominent until the end of the war. During the post-war 1950s it was often the season or period of the year that determined green/brown side out and that actually carried over to use of shelterhalves as well.

I have seen plenty of covers "green side out" on D-Day of Iwo.

Ill take that back, if you are doing a Peleliu impression you are better off going with brown side out.

"Green side out"/ "Brown side out" good books by Major H.G. Duncan
Sorry shameless plug. I think you look good. You might consider getting an earlier model carbine sling with the "C" clips. Also did you take the hem out of your trousers?

Mike Mike, you are the first one to notice the D tip sling. Wow, I thought this thread would just turn into a debate about C and D tip slings. Yes, I am well aware of the sling being wrong. One could argue (but I am NOT) That it is a Rising SMG Sling. As for the trousers I cut them shorter with a knife. ( I don't dig the whole roll them up thing) Rob

If you are talking about the 1910 F/A pouch and USMC carbine pouch, and shovel cover from WW2 impressions. I just got them, so, I have not had a chance to use them. I don't do the whole "beat up the gear thing". It will get a good used look after a few events. And what if it is a D-day event?

Rob,
Whenever you clean your gear just scrub it with a stiff brush on the driveway with some powdered detergent and that 'worn' look will take it's course the more you use your gear. Eventually it will get broken in without getting the look of trying to simulate wear.
Same goes for when you wash your dungarees. When I went through boot camp, every Sunday we washed everything by hand with a scrub brush and a bottle of Wisk at a concrete wash basin. Recruits during WWII did the same thing except they were issued large bars of Ivory soap instead.
