en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:C-46_medical_flight.jpgFor some reason the hot-link will not take you to the picture, but if you cut/past the weblink into your browser you should able to see the picture. Good image of the flight nurse, wounded in litters and a T4 doing paperwork. CM

Great pic. Mike Not to jack this thread, but here is another example of someone not checking the facts as they printed them. In the Wiki write up the pic was dated "circa 1941", and placed in the Philippines. "The C-46 wasn't officially introduced until May of 42"(from the same article).

The 2nd pattern HBTs also place it well after '41. I assumed it was PTO from the lack of cold weather gear.

Looking further down the webpage I found the following " C-46 air evacuation from Manila, Philippine Islands. Patients in bunks in a plane. Woman (nurse?) in uniform standing near bunks. Soldier writing at a desk.}} " So this places it in late "44 or early '45, n'cest pas? Chief Mike

I would assume the same thing. I have several Yank magazines showing flight nurses in the PTO and they are wearing the same type of HBTs. PTO/CBI is one of my main impressions and I wear exactly what she is wearing. I like the photo and I plan to use it in my nursing displays. Thank you for sharing it. Martha

Where do you set up your nursing displays? Will you be at Ike's Farm in September? Chief Mike

That's a cool shot, thanks for posting,
Unfortunately I do not know which specific unit he was in, but my grandfather served aboard medical evac aircraft in the PTO and this gives me an idea of what he worked with.
Shot in the dark, his records were destroyed in the fire back in '73 and I've tried researching based on what I know, anyone have any idea where I could attempt to track down what unit he was in as it escapes his memory?

Here's a suggestion. What city/county did your grandfather return to when he was discharged? After the got home, many vets went to their county court house and filed a copy of their discharge (WWII equivalent of today's DD-214 form) at the court house. This way they'd have a back up copy of this important document in case the one in their possession was lost or destroyed. The discharge certificate should list the unit(s) he served with and any medals/ribbons he was awarded. You might also check with the Department of Veterans Affairs. If he filed for veterans benefits, they may have something on him. Finally, check out the links on this website: www.militaryindexes.com/worldwartwo/Hope this helps Good luck. Chief Mike
