If anyone could find me an original photo with a couple of GIs in a captured German bike & sidecar that would be really helpful. I know I've seen photos of some Brits in a bike with the Union Jack draped over the sidecar but I can't seem to find any photos of GIs. I have heard veterans say that they have seen GIs in captured bikes and other vehicles and try to get them into the convoy but officers became much more strict with the use of them.

I have pictures somewhere of elements of 505th PIR HQ around Ste. Mere Eglise with one. I know a copy of the photo is in the book: Sainte-Mere-Eglise: Photographs of D-Day by Michel De Trez

Wow, that's a really cool photo. I love photos that show improvisation and stuff like this.

I was leafing thru a US Army Official History book one day on the 9th Army and there were a few photos in there of US convouys with german Vehicles intermixed -- they had big white stars painted on them. There were Halftracks, motorcycles, trucks and Kubels from what I re-call. The 743rd Tank battalion (of the 30th Division) had a Tiger 1 they played with for a while. I have yet to find a photo of it, but have had a number of 743rd vets relate the story to me over the years. As with anything captured that is re-used... you always take the chance of coming under friendly fire. Dave
