pretty cool old propoganda film. I wonder if there's any of the old wartime cartoons on a dvd collection somewhere?

They are available. They're part of the Walt Disney Treasures collection. This one is entitled "Walt Disney, On The Front Lines, the War Years". You could probably find it on Amazon. It is great! It has regular wartime entertainment cartoons with Donald Duck, Pluto, Goofy, etc., plus the famous "der Führer's Face". It also has the propaganda cartoons including one's made for Canada. My kid love's them...so do I. Smitty

Wasn't there a Bugs Bunny cartoon with a certain rabbit's ear plastered down over his forehead as a part of a Hitler impersonation? (I've heard about it, but never been able to track it down.)

A lot of those DVD's have been altered to remove the "offensive" material. I know that the Disney sets were released, then pulled off the shelves, then re-released with the more offensive cartoons removed. For example, the ones portraying Japanese as buck toothed with glasses and the ones portraying African Americans as savages with big lips and braided hair. Those original sets are now going for hundreds upon hundreds of dollars. If you have one-consider yourself lucky.
Warner Brothers did the same thing. Released a set-people got upset and caused an uproar, Warner pulled them off the shelves then re-released them. (I was working for Best Buy when all this stuff was going on. I KNEW I should have bought three or four sets each...*kicks self*)
That may be why its hard to find some of the more "offensive" cartoons...

yea, thats the problem. I remember seeing all the "offensive" cartoons when I was a kid. thought they were pretty funny, and gave my young mind an education too about the war effort. nowadays, the same people who thought that those same 'toons were funny and cool are now the ones telling us that they are bad. too bad they can't think beyond PC to know the historical significance of these 'toons.
