As far as the fit, I am not an expert, but the sleeves and length of the tunic are fine. I'll look into the tailoring you mentioned though. Do you know which brands do and don't have this problem? As far as the cuts, I definitely prefer the ATF tunic over the Ant-Z tunics anyday. And if you want to go the expensive route, order a $450 On The March tunic from ATF or do what I did and pick up an old Lost Battalions tunic for well under a $100 from eBay, someone on the forums, or someone in your unit.

You mean Sturm when you say ATF right? The thing that turns me off about them is the weave is wrong and the button holes are too short. The thing I don't like about Lost Battalions is they are all cut so short. I don't have $450 to spend on the New ATF tunics. How are the hikishop and spearhead tunics? They actually don't look bad from the pictures.
About the my belt being over the hooks. Currently I don't have any belt hooks. I am working on getting some Y-straps soon though.

Hmm. I wear a size 36 Bluse. I bought one from Ant-Z a few years ago and the fit is absolutely perfect. Maybe it changed, I don't know...

Yea I believe mine is a bit big. It doesn't have a size tag and the guy didn't tell me what size it was.

Are they perfect? No, but no reproduction is. Here's a link to a quite old thread that deals with reproduction tunics; ww2reenactors.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=infantry3&action=display&thread=23232Here's a link buried within that thread to a different post that has side by side comparisons of a Sturm tunic(plus a overcoat) and a original one. The gentleman making the comparison is quite knowledgeble with original German uniforms; forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=108797You are off to a good start though.

Very interesting threads! Thanks for showing them to me. Its too bad how some really good information gets buried. Its sometimes hard to separate reenactor myth from actual fact. It appears the Sturm tunics are pretty legit though.

Yea I saw those. A guy from my unit got one and liked it a lot. Can't beat the price. I am going to look at his and if I like it that will probably be where I get my next uniform .

Banned Lost Battalions tunics? That is funny. I didn't like his 43 material, but his 41 tunics were exactly like a couple I have handled. They felt like German tunics when you wore them.
The Germans made alot of different stuff with different materials. Gathering the info to know what is right and wrong is by far more productive than listening to others words.

Yea that is true, I don't have the money or access to original tunics to research it properly though. I just have to rely on pictures and other's words.

Judging by the pics, the pocket flaps are bad. They should be a slightly rhomboid shape and not a rectangle. Personally I sold my old LB tunic to somebody in this thread, that 'bluse had alot of character. I used the money (along with tons of other sales and my new job) to finance a new uniform from ATF (Texled Heer M43 tunic + keilhosen)... verdict? Awesome. Back to the topic at hand sgttom, you've come a long way since you've started, and I am impressed. Others have pointed out some problems with your kit, but overall it is better than the kits of some "seasoned" reenactors I have seen--of which some are still wearing flimsy felt uniforms that look nothing like a proper german one.

Sounds like the pocket flap issue could be fixed though. Anyhow thanks for the comments. I still have a ways to go but I am working on it. I just bought a new M35 helmet that fits better. I also picked up some "ok" Y-straps. Looking for a .8 liter canteen now as my other one was the larger type, which from what I hear was mainly used by medics.

Here is a quick snap shot of my late war GD impression. I'll try and get one with all my gear on. Attachments:

You're wearing the early war M-40 tunic and tall leather boots, right?
I know Grossdeutschland was a "showcase" division and always got first draw, but by 44-45 weren't they reduced to wearing the M-43 tunic, with many units of the division also wearing the retreat gaiters and ankle boots?

Correct. I guess I should have said mid to late war for the tunic. Many of GD did have low boots during more of the late war, but many did keep the jack boots. Most of the soldaten in my unit do have jacks.

You look good man. Sure 1943 and 42 tunics were more common later war but they were used nonetheless. I've updated my impression a lot since I took those pictures. Once I get a few more things I'll get some more photos up.
