Sir, With all do respect .If it's not written in stone i'm not willing to say it wasn't there cause sure enough someone will show up with a picture of it.. I will ake your advice and look for another.. but i will keep searching for a picture of someone using. this same gask mask bag. Go ahead and call me ignorant. but about what you said about " some guy whos daddy was in the war.. " hhe is a personal friend he would not rip me off concidering the 1000's of dollars of equipment and uniforms and helmet all original i will say.. i don't think he would ripp me off if he was going to give me all that.. When the next show comes up in march imma take it to a show and ask the vendors there concidering it is a militaria show they should know what they are talking about. and since most of them are on a first name basis with me and i have set up myself ad sold at those shows they will most likely not lie to me. .
Again thanks for advice.

It is, for all intensive purposes, written in stone Will. This is something I personally have been researching on and off for years ever since a debate like this came up in my airborne unit. The 82nd Museum at Fort Bragg has 0 pictures of them being used, that ought to tell you something already.
The attitude you have "just because I cant prove it doesn't mean I cant do it" will lead you down the road to farbism and being out cast really quick. I know they used the M1A1 bazooka in WWII. I have one, a large collection of it's accessories, and almost 400 pictures of them being used in WWII. That doesn't begin to cover everyone, everywhere in the war now does it? So can I take some artistic liscense and equip my whole unit of 40 paid members with M1 bazooka's "just because Im not willing to say it wasn't there cause sure enough someone will show up with a picture of it"?? No, it doesn't, because then I am creating a false history and false reality to suit myself.
I highly, highly doubt anyone will ever show up with a picture of your never-issued gas mask in use. Had Operation Downfall taken place, then maybe, but thankfully we don't have pictoral records of that, so no dice amigo.
So your personal friend didn't rip you off. If you are ok with having a gas mask bag not correct for your impression, fine. Look at the pictures I provided and pic out one guy using one. Then find me another picture or 10 of them in use. Maybe he didn't intentionally rip you off, maybe he doesn't know any better himself. Now you can educate him. Impress him with what you learned through research.
Ignorant? No. Hard headed..maybe. Sort of like the kid who refuses to use the answers in the back of the book, even though the teacher is out of the class room. The evidence is put right in front of your face, but you deny it more than once.
Militaria show dealers are far from experts for the most part. You'll likely get a mix bag of answers there. Most will say "Yea thats a D Day gas mask bag" while some will tell you the same thing that 3 or 4 of us have already told you.
It isn't really advice any more, it is more of proof now.

Josh would know. He was gigged on this not to long ago as well. He took the advice and corrected his flaw as well.

I think Josh meant switching the M1C swivel bale shell for an M2 'D' bale shell, or maybe a standard or modified M1 shell if you want to be a bit more unique but still accurate. The 'Inland' style liner is fine. Everyone learns at some time, the trick is to listen to what people have to say and use that knowledge to improve what you do and save yourself the wasted time, money and effort of making the same mistakes others have already made all over again. My suggestions would be perhaps replace the pistol with a bayonet and the M1910 E-Tool with an M1943 folding type.

All good suggestions.
As far as the gas mask bag goes...I got burned on that by a vet. Guy served in the 506 and gigged me on it at an event years ago...You might have heard of him, his name is Bill Guarnere.
He told me that you couldn't see the snaps on the bags and that some guys had a hard time getting them snapped and unsnapped because of the way they folded under themselves. Of course, he got rid of his about 30 seconds after landing.
Move your canteen back a little bit. When you hit your 3rd point of contact, if you land on your canteen you are going to break something, either a leg or a hip. If it is against your butt all you hit is soft tissue. You might have a nasty bruise but nothing broken. Same with the pistol. Move it to the side and the e-tool back a little bit. It will be more comfortable and wont get in your way.
When firing the rifle. Butt end against your shoulder, face off the rifle. Move your guide hand (in your case your left hand) up closer to the front end of the rifle. Where your hand is now you give no support and all your shots will go down and to the left as your end is sagging.
Lean forward into the rifle as well, when you fire standing like that, you can get knocked backward. Leaning forward allows you to eat up the recoil without falling on your ass.

And move your feet further out, far more stable platform.

You didn't get your gas mask from the PX, it was issued to you. The bag in this link is the correct one. The mask is not. Bill
